Chicken Class for Kids

Are you interested in learning about a chicken’s life cycle from baby chicks all the way up to adult chickens? This class will be a children’s introduction to the world of small farming with chickens.

In this class, we will focus on learning the different growth stages of our flocks, chicken feed, how to hold a chicken, chicken diets and so much more. This is a great class for children looking to get hands-on experience with small scale livestock.

This is a 1 hour class for children ages 6-11. Parents or a guardian are required to be on site during the entirety of the course. Children outside of this age range may attend, but the material will not necessarily be suitable for their stage of learning.

Join Blackbird Yoga Studio for a class at Closter Farm and flow amongst the apple trees in the orchard! This vinyasa class will focus on connecting the body, breath and mind; combining movement with intentional breathing, building strength and flexibility. This class is approachable for all levels whether you are a brand-new beginner or an experienced practitioner. See you there!

Healing Salve and Lip Balm - Herbalism 101

Come out to our farm on June 8th to make an all-purpose healing salve and luscious lip balm with community herbalist and grower Violet Reed of the Mahwah Environmental Volunteers Organization, Inc (MEVO). We’ll be working with easily accessible plants such as Plantain, Calendula, Lavender, and more to create amazing skincare products. We’ll also dive into Herbalism 101 and learn about the healing actions of each plant that will be going into our products and discuss what it means to practice bioregional herbalism.

Each participant will leave with a lip balm and healing salve we've made together!

Gardening is an incredibly rewarding experience but it can also be a daunting project when you don't know how to get started. Join this class if you want to learn all the steps involved in starting your own backyard garden, or refine your techniques and take your garden to the next level.

This class is tailored to the interests of the group. We will cover site selection, soil preparation, plant selection, indoor seed starting and crop rotation. And you will leave with all the tips and tricks we know to help you make a successful garden this year and a whole bunch of resources to keep learning!

We welcome ages 12 and above to this class.

Ikebana - Flower Arranging Class

Ikebana - Flower Arranging Class

Families, adults, and children over 12 are welcome but are limited to 15 attendants.

Explore the Art of Ikebana with a simple and minimal flower arrangement of three stems of flowers, three branches, and three leaves. 

All the materials and tools are provided:

A vase, a kenzan (to support the flowers and branches), Japanese scissors, an apron, and a watering can. 

What you can take back home: Flowers, branches, leaves used in the lesson, plus extra flowers. Other materials may be available for purchase. 

Matcha tea and sweets will be provided after the class.
